OLD Halesonians enter unchartered territory this weekend when they travel to Lymm in Cheshire for their much awaited debut at National Midlands level.
The Wassell Grove side will be boosted by an impressive full dress rehearsal at National League North club Bromsgrove last Saturday where Halesonians proved convincing winners. Halesonians have strengthened their ranks with the arrival of player-coach Mark Evans, who was previously at Moseley and Sutton Coldfield along with ex Coventry scrum half Nathan Jones, second row Rich Sawyer from Darlington Mowden Park and former Hartpury College centre Pete Clifford who has been playing in Canada. Halesonians ran out 27-12 winners thanks to tries from centre Carl Robinson, fly half Tommy Harris. winger Joe Oxford and hooker Pete Fitzgerald. The remaining points were provided by the boot of full back Chris Hooper.
Just to underline their strength in depth, Halesonians Second XV beat Bromsgrove 31-17.
On the downside, Halesonains have lost back row player Tim Breakwell who has joined local side Ludlow along with last season’s scrum half Dave Hadkiss who has gone to Bridgnorth.
Halesonians spokesman Simon Hussey claimed: “They will both be missed.”
