Pearce prepares for Masters showdown

STEVEN Pearce and Rob Hunt went head-to-head as they prepare for their British Masters Welterweight showdown next month.
The pair clash on EJKO Promotions’ ‘Double Trouble 2’ on Saturday, November 16.
Pearce, Stourbridge’s former Midlands Area Welterweight Champion, will be entering the ring for the first time since losing his title to Sam Eggington in April. Before that, the 28 year-old had defeated Luke Gallear to lift the Midlands strap and also competed in Prizefighter at the turn of the year. Pearce believes those high profile bouts will stand him in good stead as he looks to secure a British Masters strap.
He claimed: “I’ve been fighting at a good level for a while now.
“Prizefighter is a big stage and I took my shot at the Midlands Area Title with just four days notice. I was expected to lose but I went to Gallear’s back yard and knocked him out.
“I didn’t duck anybody and took a very hard fight in Sam Eggington. On the night, he deserved the win. That’s boxing.
“I’ve learned a lot from those fights. I’ve taken bits out of each of them and I think the fact that my last two fights have been title fights, at ten rounds, will give me the edge.”
Stafford’s Hunt will be hoping it is second time lucky in his quest for a Masters Title. The 27 year-old lost to Ben Lawler for the belt back in 2010.
Hunt competed in the same Prizefighter as Pearce back in January before making an impressive ring return in September with a convincing victory over veteran Andrew Patterson.
Tickets are priced at £30 and £60 Ringside and are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900.
Double Trouble 2 also features Cradley’s Chris Male who takes on Coventry’s Troy James in a British Super Featherweight title eliminator.
