11:19am Thursday 31st October 2013 in Sport
RACE ace Michael Rutter had a wretched finish to this season’s British Superbike Championship series when he crashed at Brands Hatch.
Kingswinford-based Rutter came to grief on the penultimate lap of race two when he lost control of his Bathams Honda while negotiating a damp patch and was flung into the gravel while doing 110mph.
Rutter bravely got back on his bike to compete in race three, but was soon forced to retire as a result of his injuries.
It all began so promisingly for Rutter who had qualified for 12th place on the grid after practise.
The circuit dried out during race one and Rutter made the most of conditions, improving to finish in 10th spot.
He struggled for grip in race two and dropped to the back of the pack at one stage, but then recovered to reach 12th place when his fateful crash occured.
Rutter hopes to recover in time for him to travel to China next month and compete in the annual Macau GP.
