FORMER Midlands Area Welterweight champion Steven Pearce attempts to get his career back on track this Saturday when he takes on Stafford’s Rob Hunt in a British Masters contest at Walsall Town Hall.

It will be Pearce’s first fight since losing his title to town rival Sam Eggington and the Stourbridge boxer is ready to grasp the opportunity with both hands.

Pearce said: “I need a big, big win over Hunt and that will catapault me back to where I was before in my career.

“I’ve been in a seven-week training camp for this fight and it’s gone brilliantly. I’ve gone the 10 rounds distance twice with different sparring partners, so I know I can do the distance if required.

“But I’m not intending it to go the distance. The longer the fight goes on, the more chance Rob Hunt has of winning it on points. I’m looking to put him under as much pressure as it takes to close the show early.

“There’s a number of people who don’t expect me to win this fight, but I’m looking to impress and get all my supporters back buzzing.”

Tickets are still available for the fight from Walsall Town Hall box office on 0845 111 2900.

Chris Male is also on the bill when he takes on Troy James in a British Super Featherweight title eliminator.
