OLD Halesonians Hockey Club’s losing streak came to an end after they thrashed bottom of the league Wolverhampton 8-1.

Hales Striker Tom Bulteel scored a double hat-trick as the visitors dominated the game.

Tom Bulteel opened the scoring just minutes into the game when he dispatched the ball into the net from a penalty corner. Shortly after, the striker grabbed another with a reverse stick strike with an assist from Harry Hughes.

The duo teamed up again when Bulteel finalised his first hat-trick in less than 15 minutes. The action continued, and Wolverhampton improved their game. This led to Simon Palmer being sent to the sin bin after he got yellow carded for deliberately breaking down the play with his hand.

Despite being a man-down, Hales were still able to pile the pressure on the hosts, and Bulteel scored his fourth of the game with a first time strike. Hales returned to full strength before the break and there was just enough time for Tom Durnford to get his name on the score sheet and make it 5-0 when he powered the ball through the Wolverhampton goalkeeper.

After the break, Hales were well managed and they saved energy knowing that they have a massive two games ahead of them before the season ends.

Josh Randhawa was first to come close in the second period, when he pushed the ball wide despite having multiple options. Bulteel then added to the score to make it 6-0, when he fired again from a penalty corner. Paul Woodall then made it seven when he slid in at the back post to score into an empty net.

Wolverhampton were dead and buried and were not helped when their captain was shown a yellow card leaving them a man down.

Bulteel finished off his second hat-trick when he teamed up with captain Chris Whiley. After several passes, the striker put the ball into the goal to make it 8-0. There was just enough time in the final minutes when the hosts were awarded a penalty flick. Goalkeeper Steve Charlton, who was virtually unchallenged throughout the entire game, was sent the wrong way, and Wolverhampton got their consolation goal.

Hales will look to build on this victory as the play host to Worcester in the penultimate game of the season, which starts at 1.30pm at Ormiston Forge Academy on Saturday.
