Perry to return to action
9:43am Wednesday 28th May 2014 in Sport
CRADLEY favourite Tom Perry is hoping to be back on a bike at the end of this week for a fitness test.
If he comes through it he will be facing the daunting prospect of two meetings in one night at Monmore Green next Tuesday.
Heathens face Mildenhall in the return leg of their Knockout Cup tie with a 10-point lead to defend – and this is followed immediately by Scunthorpe in a National League clash.
Perry suffered a broken collarbone when making a guest Premier League appearance for Ipswich three weeks ago and admits he is desperate to get back racing again.
He said: ": "I'm planning to have a practice at the end of the week before making a decision, both for Cradley and for my Elite League club Leicester.
"I've got good movement in the shoulder, I'm feeling pretty good about it all and I'm hoping I can be back next week.
"I know I've got to be careful, though, because I can't risk further damage. That said, I'm just desperate to get back out there and ride my bike.
"I took delivery of some new stuff last week and did a lot of work on it, so I'm really prepared for the comeback. I just want to get back riding for both Cradley and Leicester.
"It's ironic Leicester are at Wolverhampton on Monday and then the following night we have a double header for Cradley against both Scunthorpe and Mildenhall."
The action will start at the earlier time of 7.15pm next Tuesday with the Mildenhall meeting first and Scunthorpe following immediately afterwards.
Boss Will Pottinger said: "It will be a feast of racing and we are looking forward to it. We have some catching up to do with our fixtures.
"It would be good to have Tom Perry back but he knows he needs to be sure he is 100 per cent ready for his return. I wouldn't want him to risk any further damage.
"Next Tuesday will be four weeks since his crash."
Cradley have set admission prices at £14 adults, £10 concessions and the normal £2 children for next Tuesday.
The Heathens were due to face Kent at Monmore Green last night.
