11:33am Thursday 5th June 2014 in Sport
STOURBRIDGE snapped up crucial points in their fight for a top two finish in division two of the Birmingham Premier League.
The Memorial Ground outfit outplayed visitors Water Orton last Saturday to bag a maximum 24 points to remain in the second spot on 85 points.
Leamington Spa currenly lead the pack on 94 points. Stour are well placed and 24 points ahead of Brewood in third.
Water Orton skipper Stephen Bevan’s decision to bat first back fired as his side crumbled to 53 for 7 and all out for 95, batting just 38 overs of the 50 overs available.
A late 40 run partnership between Gary Crouch (24) and number eight Sukhjit Singh (31) saved embarrassment for the visitors.
Audy Alexander's bowling destroyed the middle order. He took the wicket of Harry Bennett, caught behind for 19, had Gary Crouch trapped lbw and bowled Grant Roscorla for a duck
All three wickets fell without a run being added to the total.
Worse followed with the fall of the fourth wicket with the score still on 53. Bilal Hassan deceived Mathew Ringin to have him also caught for a duck.
Alexander‘s three wickets cost 22 off 12 overs.
Stour openers Alex Bingham and Steve Game batted with purpose as they set about chasing down the small score.
The home side reached the required target in 22 overs with opener Steven Game the only one out for lbw from the bowling of Stephan Bevan for 15.
Bingham remained not out on 50 to see his team home alongside skipper Richard Bradley (29 no).
Stour will face tougher opposition away to Penkridge this Saturday. Their hosts have now climbed up to fourth position in the league.
Stourbridge will then welcome Oswestry in the cup the following day.
