STOURBRIDGE slipped down to fourth position in Division Two of the Birmingham Premiere League after their match against Whitchurch last Saturday was abandoned.

They are now one point below Eastnor who are on 109 points. Leamington Spa are holding on to the top spot with 161 points and Penkridge have replaced Stour in second spot with 124 points.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom at the Memorial Ground as ambitions to progress are still at the forefront of the minds of players and officials

The four abandoned matches already this season have been a major set back.

“The weather has played a big part in our first and other teams sliding down the divisions. Despite best efforts to keep games on a number have been abandoned due to heavy down pours,” said President Keith Jones.

Last weekend was a classic example of what the memorial Ground outfit has to contend with.

Skipper Richard Bradley won the toss and fielded first. He didn't have to wait long for success as debutant paceman Ikram Mussadag took the wicket of Maisam Hussain, caught behind for one in the third over.

Stour’s first ball appeal for lbw was turned down to the disappointment of other paceman, Ali Shah. Mussadag struck again in the seventh over as he got rid of the number three Mo Ishtaiq for four.

It was the second catch for keeper Josh Banks who stepped in for the injured Greg Jones. Whitchurch were reeling on 43 for 3 off nine overs when Mussadaq claimed his third victim bowling Waqar Saleem for 21.

Two showers then spoiled Stour’s ascendancy and left the umpires with no choice but to abandon the match 24 overs into the game. Whitchurch made a recovery through Omar Ali and Ijaz Yousaf both remained not out on 41 and 19 respectively.

Stour will now take on Tamworth this Saturday.

Meanwhile, in division two of the Worcestershire County League, Pedmore beat Droitwich Spa by six wickets.

Number five Dan Jones hit an unbeaten 94 to guide his side to victory.

They will now take on Evesham away this Saturday.

In the same division, both Hagley's game against Worcester Nomads and Belbroughton's clash with Worcester were abandoned due to the weather.
