HALESOWEN athletes put in more impressive performances at the Midlands County Athletics Association Championships in Leicester on August 16 and 17

The first race of the first day that featured Halesowen athletes was the u15 girls 3000m race.

Won by Coventry Godiva’s Bethan Hinnett in 10.41.30, it was Halesowen athletes Livvy Worth who took the silver in 10.53.61 and Abigail Saker who took the bronze in 11.02.53.

The u17 men’s 100m sprinters fought the blustery wind as well as each other with Halesowen’s Billy Lowndes finishing fifth in his heat in 11.83s.

The three Halesowen u15 girls were all placed in the same heat for their 100m race. Josie Oliarnyk won in 12.44s with Molly Jenks taking second in 12.72s and Lauryn Elliot 6th in 13.70s.

The final saw Nottingham’s Sharhnee Kervin take the gold in 12.30s but Halesowen athletes again came away with silver and bronze with Josie Oliarnyk finishing in 12.30s and Molly Jenks 12.81s.

In the field events, Halesowen’s Lee Wright took home a bronze medal in the u15 boys hammer with a throw of 33.31m, just missing out on a medal in the javelin with a throw of 39.33m.

The first gold of the day for a Halesowen member came from Josie Oliarnyk in the u15 long jump, jumping 5.20m.

Club teammate Molly Jenks took the bronze with 4.87m.

The second day of competition saw more windy weather. However, despite the difficult conditions, Halesowen’s Abigail Saker placed fourth in the u15 girls 1500m in 5.01.62.

The u15 200m girls heats saw Molly Jenks place second in 26.55 in her heat, Josie Oliarnyk first (25.83) and Lauryn Elliot sixth (28.50) in their heats.

The final saw a repeat of the 100m results with Josie and Molly finishing in silver (25.69s) and bronze (26.58s) places again behind Nottinghamshire’s Sharhnee Skervin (25.20s).

U17 Billy Lowndes placed sixth in his heat of the 200m race in 24.23s but Niall Geraghty achieved bronze in the u17 800m in a time of 2.00.92.

Lee Wright was another athlete who returned for a second day of competition, being rewarded with a gold in the discus with a throw of 37.37m and a silver in the shot with a throw of 12.55m.

It was a seventh place for Lauryn Elliott in the u15 high jump with a jump of 1.25m.

Iris Oliarnyk had a great u13 quadrathon competition finishing second in her 100m heat, first in her high jump pool, first in her long jump pool and second in her shot putt pool, taking the silver medal in the overall competition.
