Worrall want league and cup double

CRADLEY star Steve Worrall says the Heathens' spectacular run of form will mean nothing if they don’t win anything come the end of the campaign.

Heathens are mathematically certain of finishing top of the table for the fourth time in five seasons – and they stage the home leg of their Knockout Cup semi-final against rivals Coventry at Monmore next Tuesday.

Whilst it has been a hugely successful season to date, Worrall knows the hard work is yet to come with the play-offs and cup meetings on the horizon.

He said: "To finish top of the table is a great achievement, and we were really pleased to get that confirmed last week.

"We knew from the start of the season that we had a strong side, so we are just pleased everything has come together and we've managed to live up to expectations so far.

"It's been a great year for me personally and an awesome year for Cradley, but we've just got to focus on the play-offs and the cup now.

“Coventry are a good side with some powerful riders, so we know we will have to be on our guard next Tuesday, we want a big lead to take to their place whenever the return is pencilled in for.

“If we all ride to our true potential then there is no reason why we can’t do the league and cup double.

"It's winning the league which is the main thing, and if we don't manage to come out on top in the play-offs finishing top of the table will be kind of irrelevant really.

"After all the work we've put in so far we are desperate not to let it slip, so hopefully we can keep everyone fit for the play-offs.

"We are concentrating on some big meetings we'll have coming up, and fingers crossed we come back with the National League title at the end of it all."

Meanwhile, Cradley were looking to extend their winning run against Devon last night before travelling to King's Lynn tonight.

Their clash with the Young Stars at the Norfolk Arena will also serve as the second leg of the National Shield, with Will Pottinger's side looking to add more silverware to their collection.

Cradley already have one hand on the trophy having romped to a 69-23 win in the first leg at Monmore Green back in April.

And they will look to seal victory in style by ensuring they end their regular National League fixtures with a win.

The Heathens had been set to be without Matt Williamson for their clash with Devon last night due to Scunthorpe’s trip to Peterborough in the Premier League.

However, Williamson has unfortunately been released by the Scorpions with Heathens colleague Tom Perry snapped up as his replacement.

Tickets for the clubs' End of Season Presentation Night are now on sale from the Monmore Green track shop. Supporters are urged to secure their tickets early for the event which will be held at the Copthorne Hotel on Saturday, November 15.

The Heathens have also confirmed the dates they have received for their play-off and Knockout Cup fixtures.

Tuesday, September 23 has been pencilled in for their National League play-off semi-final whilst Tuesday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 21 have also been reserved for Play-Off and KO Cup Finals should Cradley qualify.
