LYE Town backed up last week's victory over table-toppers Basford United with a 5-0 away victory against Heath Hayes last Saturday.

Chairman Brian Blakemore praised the team's attitude.

"The last thing you want to happen is to beat the league leaders then slip up straight after," he said. "The players got the job done."

Lye took the lead on five minutes when good work by Richard Anslow resulted in the ball coming across the penalty area for Daniel Jones to fire home for his first goal for the club.

Only four minutes later, Town doubled their lead with a penalty after Chris Russell was brought down in the box. Spot kick expert Damian Whitcombe confidently fired home.

The away side's day got worse when defender Thomas Baggott saw red on 32 minutes for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

The third goal came when defender Harry Phillips scored an own goal with a spectacular flying header from an excellent right wing cross from Simon Williams.

Two second half goals from Mark Danks completed the scoring.

However, the club's poor run of form in this season's cup competitions went on as they slipped to a 2-1 loss against Tipton on Tuesday night in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

Ben Jeavons could return to the side for Saturday's home game against Walsall Wood.
