CRADLEY Heathens secured their second piece of silverware of the season with victory over King's Lynn at Monmore Green tonight.

The Heathens did enough on the night before heavy rain meant proceedings had to be called to a halt early.

The contest ended after heat ten with the home side leading 39-22 on top of the four point lead obtained from the first leg.

Despite the club's future being cast into doubt following news they will no longer be able to use their adopted Wolverhampton home, Cradley made sure they ended this chapter of their history on a high. Early heat wins for Paul Starke and then Max Clegg put Cradley in pole position before they bagged their first maximum when Tom Perry followed Clegg to the line in heat three.

The Heathens secured a 5-0 points haul in the re-run of heat five when the lone King's Lynn rider of Tom Stokes slid out to leave Clegg and Perry the task of just completing the race.

Stokes' team-mate Ben Morley had previously been excluded from the re-run after he'd come off in the initial showdown.

The visitors were given some hope when Morley, under a tactical ride, claimed six points for a win in heat eight. That took the scores to 31-19.

However, soon after the rain started to fall and Cradley wasted no time shutting the door.

Heat nine saw star duo Clegg and Perry again come out on top to push the home side further away.

When heat ten had to be stopped in the interests of safety due to the weather conditions, it meant the Heathens could celebrate more cup joy.

Attention now turns to tomorrow night's clash away at Coventry in the second leg of the National League final.

The Heathens hold a ten point advantage from the first leg as they look to end the season in style.
