WITH two fixtures falling foul of the weather, only four games were played in Division One of the Beacon League.

Competition for the top spot remains fierce, with three of the top four sides competing. First up were current leaders Ellowes Hall against Springvale Steelers Cougars.

Cougars started well and soon took the lead with a Hayden Hughes header form a free-kick to put them 1-0 to the good.

This physical game saw chances for both sides but Richard Hill managed to grab an equaliser for Ellowes before half time.

After the break, Cougars continued to press Ellowes and were rewarded with an excellent Corey Ensor goal to go ahead for the second time.

Mathew Harris headed in for a 3-1 lead for the visitors and looked set to ensure they left with all three points, but on 83 minutes Jordan Day managed to reduce the deficit for Ellowes. With the minutes ticking down, it was a nervous last few minutes for Cougars and with a great show of character Ellowes Hall managed to grab an equaliser on 90 minutes thanks to Tom Stanaway to level the game at 3-3.

Pensnett Panthers played hosts to third placed Sedgley Phoenix with both teams also enjoying an unbeaten start to this year’s campaign.

The game was evenly contested and although chances were created neither team was able to break the deadlock before the break.

Steven Jeavons eventually managed to put Panthers ahead, before Phoenix levelled. Jeavons managed to complete his brace to put Panthers ahead a second time.

Phoenix looked set to level again after being awarded a penalty for a foul in the box, but were unable to score and looked set to lose their first league game. However, deep into injury time they managed to grab a late equaliser to keep their eyes on top spot with a 2-2 draw. On target for Sedgley Phoenix were Watkins and Darby.

The heavy conditions proved popular with Island Inn as they recorded only their second league win with a 3-1 success at home to FC Banterlona.

A good natured game saw Eastfield enjoy all three points away from home against unlucky BNG FC Handsworth. Still looking for their first win, BNG remain in bottom place after conceding a heavy 10-1 defeat to hat-tricks from Timol McKellop and Brian Yates. Single strikes came from Dominic Latham, Dwayne Brisset, John Lengyel and James Hughes.

In the Premiership, Sportsman extend their unbeaten run to four wins from four games with a 6-1 home victory over AFC Tipton.

A commanding performance from Cottage Spring Castle saw them enjoy all three points away from home playing Thimblemill Recreation.

Despite playing with only 10 men, Dynamo Dudley deserve full credit for recording their first league win of the season. Joe Colley gave Dynamo the lead at half time.

After the break, Awah Eddyson managed beat the offside trap and score a scrappy goal for the home team. Dynamo Dudley played well and Colley managed to score his second of the game to give the visitors a deserved 2-1 win.
