THE nominations are in and voting is now open for 2014’s Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen News’ Sports Personality of the Year.

It has been another brilliant time for the area’s sports stars, and we want you to have your say on who should win this year’s award.

Readers can vote for their star of 2014 from our shortlist of five.

Among the candidates is Commonwealth golden girl Jodie Stimpson.

Stimpson, a member of Oldbury Triathlon Club, bagged two golds in Glasgow with brilliant performances in the individual and team triathlon events.

She even got England’s golden medal tally up and running on the first day of the games.

Halesowen’s wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley is in the running after making tennis history in 2014.

Whiley became the first British player to win a calendar year Grand Slam after claiming doubles victories with partner Yui Kamiji.

Stourbridge shot putter Rachel Wallader has also made the shortlist after a year to remember.

She threw a personal best on her debut appearance at the Commonwealth Games to finish just outside the medal placings in fourth.

The 24-year-old is now ranked as number two in the UK and is the current British Indoor champion.

Another star in with a chance of scooping the award is Halesowen Town forward Ben Haseley.

The frontman helped fire the Yeltz to title glory as they won promotion from the Northern Premier League Division One South last season.

Haseley has also just passed the 100 goal mark as Halesowen look to progress in the Northern Premier.

Finally, the shortlist is completed by Tividale’s Richard Huckfield.

Last season’s club captain played a pivotal role to lead the team from The Beeches to a brilliant league and cup double.

The winner will be decided following an internet vote on our websites over the Christmas and New Year period.

Voting will close on Sunday, January 11 and the winner announced soon after.
