NEIL Mitchell says he would love to make loanee Caolan Ryan a permanent addition to his Stourbridge squad, but admits he'd face a difficult task convincing the fly half to sign up.

Ryan, currently on loan at Stourton Park from Championship side Moseley, put in another fine performance as Stour got back to winning ways against third-from-bottom outfit Hull last Saturday.

The home contest was a must win match for Mitchell's men as they look to stay clear of a relegation scrap following an injury-hit campaign.

Director of rugby Mitchell said: "I would love to sign Caolan Ryan permanently for next season but we would face a tough task convincing him to drop down to our level for a year.

"It all comes down to what he would want to do. Here he would get games, be one of the league's top scorers and would certainly get noticed.

"However, he is a Moseley player and I'm just grateful to have him around for the time being. We find out week-by-week if he will be here for the weekend but he has made a big difference to us."

It was Ryan that set the tone from the word go as Stour made a mockery of their recent poor form with a convincing 53-22 win over Hull.

He sliced through Hull's defence straight from kick-off and set up the chance for skipper Nigel Mukarati to score the opening try with just 59 seconds gone.

By the 21st minute mark, Stour had already wrapped up the bonus point with four tries, which enabled Mitchell to give all his squad plenty of game time.

Left wing Gary Dipple grabbed the second try as Stour threw the ball at every opportunity before number eight Drew Harper bulldozed his way over for two more tries.

Hull did manage to snap up a try of their own when against the run of play alert forward replacement Joe Stafford was quick to spot the ball squirting out of a driving maul and pounced to score with his first touch.

Stour were soon back on the offensive, however, with Dipple adding a second try while Ryan proved imperious with the boot, slotting over four conversions and then a penalty on the stroke of half time to secure Stour's 36-5 advantage.

Credit to Hull, who got their act together to a bag a further three tries, and a bonus point, in the second period.

However, Dipple completed his hat-trick for Stour before second row Ciaran Moore completed the scoring.

Mitchell said: "It was a must win game and the manner in which we got the job done was very pleasing.

"There were a few defensive aspects that could be improved, but the victory should give us all a lift.

"Being able to train together made a massive difference and gave us some continuity. Having some of the more experienced players back helped take the pressure off.

"The performance was more in line with what we expected last season. We now need to carry that forwards."

Stourbridge will travel to take on Otley this Saturday.

They are set to be without Kyle Garner and fellow prop Steve Blackburn, who has had to retire due to calf problems and work commitments.

Jacob Nash, Jordan Page and Tom Jarvis could also miss out through injury.
