CHAIRMAN Colin Brookes says this current Halesowen Town side is the hardest working he has seen in more than 20 years at the club.

The Yeltz continued their unbeaten start to 2015 and displayed their play-off potential with a 2-1 home win against high-flying Buxton last Saturday.

The result lifted Hales to ninth position in the Northern Premier and had the chairman waxing lyrical about the players and management team, which is mostly made up of the personnel that won promotion last season.

Brookes said: "I can honestly say that this is the best Halesowen team without the ball that I have seen. They work hard for each other and are really well organised.

"Of course they can play, but it is their effort and togetherness that really stands out. That is why we are doing so well.

"Credit must go to John Hill and his staff."

Town's fine form was taken to another level when third-placed Buxton came to The Grove.

The visitors became the latest victim of the Yeltz's seven game spell without defeat.

Goals from forward pair Ben Haseley and Iyseden Christie either side of half time showed just why some Town fans are dreaming of their side forcing their way into the play-off picture.

Buxton did look a threat when they attacked but time and time again the solid Yeltz back line stood firm.

Both sides took it in turns to apply some pressure but it was Hales that looked more in control of proceedings throughout.

The direct team tactics and the long throws of Tom Tonks kept Buxton pressed back.

Halesowen got the breakthrough they deserved on 43 minutes as Haseley powered home from close range as Buxton failed to clear the danger from a Yeltz corner.

The second half was a more scrappy affair compared to the first but it was manager John Hill's men that struck again on the hour mark.

Christie chested down Aaron Forde's ball into the box before calmly rolling it under the advancing Josh Ollershaw and into the bottom corner.

Town could have wrapped up the game just six minutes later when defender Joe Hull, still up from a previous free kick into the box, headed against the bar after great work down the right flank by Bragoli once more.

The visitors did find the net in stoppage time when Greg Young rose to head the ball home after a spell of later pressure, but it proved too little too late.

Overall, it was a well-deserved victory for the Yeltz and an accomplished showing against a side currently mixing it at the head of affairs.

"It was a very professional performance," added Brookes. "It is all just about keeping this run going as long as possible. We don't really have a reason to fear anyone."

The Yeltz will now go to second-placed Workington this Saturday.

Jake Jones should be available after illness and Aaron Daniels has now served his suspension.

Meanwhile, forward Robert Thomson-Brown has left the club to join Stratford Town.

He has agreed to join to get some much needed game time after being limited to the bench in the second half of the season.

Due to Stratford Town being in a different league, Halesowen Town will retain his registration of Thomson-Brown and monitor the situation.
