ATHLETES from Dudley Kingswinford Running Club were in action again last weekend with a group travelling to Coventry for their half marathon and a small number lining up to compete in Wolverhampton and Bilston’s March Hair Raiser, an off road race of roughly six and a half miles near Albrighton.

In Coventry, over 3,500 runners toed the line for the city’s 13.1 mile race, the course starting in the city centre and climbing gradually over the first half of the race taking in the Warwickshire villages of Allesley and Keresley before heading slightly downhill back towards the city centre finish.

Ben Foster was 7th in a lightning quick time of 1.13.36 coming in only three minutes behind the winner Tom Doe of Lincoln Wellington AC. Rob Sannwald recorded a distance PB in 1.22.56 in 58th place, Dave Norman was 129th in 1.25.58, Brian Preston ran a creditable 1.32.50 for 288th after struggling from two miles in, Simon Blizzard ran 1.33.07 for 296th and Mark Homer produced a solid 1.35.53 for 385th.

Closer to home, whilst the hosts club hovered up most of the prizes in the Marc Hair Raiser, Andy Sprague took 11th place in 40.54, Lyn Sprague finished in 52.34 in 75th place, Jacqui Elson-Whittaker was 93rd in 56.02 and John Glover came home in 58.47 to place 114th.
