HALESOWEN junior sprint athletes took part in the British Athletics’ Club Connect Competition last weekend.

The event was part of the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix which saw Mo Farah break the two mile world record in 8.03.40. It saw a host of top athletes compete including Greg Rutherford, Jenny Meadows, Katarina Johnson Thompson, Kim Collins and Nigel Levine to name but a few.

The Club Connect competition kicked off the main event with clubs who had been invited to take part: Birchfield, Rugby and Northants, Solihull and Small Heath, Cheltenham, Royal Sutton Coldfield and Halesowen with Dominic McNeillis as team manager and coach.

It was Halesowen who came out on top bringing back to the club prize money of £1,000.

The competition took the form of 4 x 200m relays with Halesowen winning the under 15 boys race 1.39.48, the under 13 boys race (1.59.35), the under 17 women’s race (1.45.30) and the under 13 girls race (2.06.20). To complete the results the under 15 girls placed 2nd in their race in 1.52.33 and the under 17 men clambered through the field to finally take 3rd in their race in 1.34.58 after suffering a dropped baton.

It was a fantastic opportunity for Halesowen's junior athletes to be part of such a prestigious event - what a great way to kick off the track season.
