BOSS Andy Wyton thinks Gornal Athletic's approaching cup final could kickstart a strong end to the season

The Peacocks secured their place in the final of the Birmingham FA Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup with a 2-1 away victory over Southam United last Tuesday.

Danny Crudgington levelled matters after Southam had grabbed a lead. Tom Piggott then hit the winner to send Gornal into the final despite the late sending off of defender Matt Vaughan.

They will now face fellow West Midlands Premier side Willenhall Town at a date to be decided.

Wyton thinks the result could have a positive impact on his aim of a top two finish.

"Now we have a final coming up the players will need to make sure they are in the team on the big day," he said.

"They will have to play well in our league games each week if they want to be considered.

"We can't win the league now but I want to finish second. If we do that and win a cup then it will have been a pretty good season.

"Players must make sure they keep their shirts with the final coming up and that must start this weekend."

After no game last Saturday, Gornal are set to return to league action this Saturday as they face Bilston Town Community away.
