WITH the Formula One season starting at the weekend it was appropriate that athletes from Dudley Kingswinford Running Club travelled to Silverstone for a half marathon at the iconic motor racing circuit. On a windy morning that possibly slowed times a little, Matt Biggs was 164th in 1.27.07, Graham Wildgoose clocked an agonising 1.30.01 to take 206th place, Mark Judge finished in 318th in 1.30.12 and Phil Morris was 6054th in 2.37.11.

Elsewhere, runners were also competing in the Fradley 10k with Karen Doy finishing in 49.03 to take 293rd place, Liz Hettle was 302nd in 49.30 and Jo Clare was 347th in 50.54.

While some runners were busy racing at the weekend, it’s the time of year for beginners to start thinking about taking that first step.

Dudley Kingswinford Running Club will be holding a Beginners Course starting on Tuesday, March 31 at 7pm from DK Rugby Club.

The aim of the course is to build up fitness over a 10 week period to enable beginners to complete the club’s Gavin Tipper 5k on June 4, starting from being able to walk round the rugby pitch and steadily building up to finish 5k. The only entry requirement being you must be able to walk for at least 15 minutes at a brisk pace.

The cost of the course is £35 per person which includes free entry to the Gavin Tipper 5k and a DK Running Club t-shirt. Registration will take place on Thursday, March 26 but for more detail contact John Glover on 07748212443.
