LYE Town will be looking for a bumper crowd this Saturday when they clash with second placed Coleshill Town in the Midland League's match of the day at Stourbridge Road.

While Lye insist they have little chance of winning the title themselves, they are intent on putting a serious dent in Coleshill's prospects.

Joint-team manager Martin Thomas insisted: "Wherever we finish up this season, it will be our best ever and we'll be going hell-bent to beat Coleshill.

"There will be no pressure on us and we will be looking to win all seven of our remaining fixtures and see where that takes us."

Lye obtained a 1-1 draw at fourth placed Long Eaton Town last Saturday which was an extremely pleasing performance as Thomas and managerial partner Darren Goodall were seriously forced to reshuffle the squad after several of the players had spent the previous day at Cheltenham Races.

Thomas revealed: "If I said we started the game without the likes of Ricky Anslow, Scott Gerrard or Damian Whitcombe, it gives you an idea of who was missing. We had to completely change the system and following a 15 minute spell, we settled down held the ball and played really well."

It meant only a second start for 19 year old Brad Smith, while Matty Johnson was moved from full back to partner Jamie Haynes in midfield with experienced Ben Jevons being drafted into the heart of the defence.

Giant Long Eaton striker Jermasine Palmer headed the Derbyshire side ahead but Lye hit back to level when James Spray converted from a Jamie Haynes free kick.

Lye are still looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the Coleshill game after ruling out their former Hendesford defender Sam Mills for the remainder of the season.

And Thomas also paid tribute this week to Lye's growing band of supporters.

He said: "We must have taken almost 30 supporters with us to Long Eaton on the coach while others made their own way there.

"The support we have received this season has been nothing short of fantastic and everything that we achieve, we have done it for them."
