HIMLEY'S dismal start to the season continued as they lost their basement clash with Moseley.

Himley failed to win the toss again last Saturday and were put into bat by their hosts.

Openers William Fraine (4) and Greg Wright (25) soon fell to the bowling of Fred Eburah and Abdul Hafeez respectively.

However, the visitors were given a chance of that elusive first win of the season when number three Wasim Jaffer smashed 107 before being dismissed by Ali Awan.

The biggest issue for Himley was finding Jaffer a partner to stick around at the crease for any prolonged period.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore (8), Bahle Mhlanga (0) and Stuart Wedge (9) were all dismissed cheaply.

Bilaal Hussain, batting at seven, top scored out of the lower order batsmen when hitting 19 as Himley ended their innings with 216-8.

Himley's response got off to a good start when Jamie Turner bowled opener Andrew Umeed for one run.

But a solid 77 from Aadam Din set Moseley on their way towards victory.

The game was set to go to the wire, however, as Himley took wickets at regular intervals. Moseley eventually managed to reach their target in the 50th over with the visitors needing just one more wicket.

Number ten Fred Eburah remained not out on 31 to guide his side over the line.

The result leaves Himley bottom of Division One of the Birmingham League before welcoming Attock this Saturday.

Meanwhile, the club did have some joy as they overcome Hinstock in the second round of the Davidstow Village Cup last Sunday.

The away success moved them to within six rounds of the final at Lord’s, where the winner will be crowned the best village cricket team in the country.

Now into its 43rd year, 280 clubs entered this year’s competition from as far as Crathie CC in Scotland to Troon CC in Cornwall, all vying for the dream ticket to play at the home of cricket.

The two national finalists will also be accommodated in the same hotel used by the England cricket team and provided with cup final suits.
