Coleshill Ladies Lions 0 - Gornal Ladies FC 15 Goal Scorers LAUREN KEEN (5) BETH ARROWSMITH (4) DIONNE MCKEE (3) KATIE MOORE (1) GEMMA HAMILL-MOSS (1) SOPHIE LEWIS (1) In their second match of the season Gornal faced a newly constructed side, Coleshill, in their first ever meeting between the two sides, both teams started well but after the initial period Gornal took control of the game and most of the play was in the Coleshill half. Gornal had several opportunities in the opening exchanges but missed the target on each occasion. It was only a question of time before Gornal took the lead.

Keeper Sam Brough’s long clearance was well controlled by Sarah Hammil-Moss in centre of midfield and she produced a quality pass splitting two defenders into the path of Gemma Hammil-Moss, her powerful shot leaving the keeper helpless.

This first goal encouraged the whole Gornal side to step up another gear. Great wing work by Chelsea Fellows and a saved shot led to her setting up Dionne Mckee’s first goal, beating three players in the area before slotting calmly past the keeper from an acute angle.

Charly Brookes got in on the act and set up Mckee’s second. Girl of the game, Beth Arrowsmith, scored a 30 yard Goal from the left wing leaving the keeper helpless with an perfect high ball. Debut player Lauren Keen first touch from the subs bench was to cut inside and scored with a 20 yard top corner strike within seconds on coming on to the pitch, After Half time Gornal were on fire, playing with the aid of a slope and hungry for more and scoring another ten goals. Mckee got her deserved hat trick rounding the keeper before slotting into an empty net, Keen scored another four goals, the best of which saw her take the ball 40 yards out and producing a strong run down the right wing before beating the keeper from 20 yards out. Kate Moore scored a skilful looping shot from 25 yards following good battling in midfield from Mckee. Arrowsmith finished her four goal tally with a well taken penalty following Moore being hauled down in the penalty area. Goal of the game came from excellent team play, left back Sophie Lewis began the move passing the ball to Hammil-Moss near the centre circle who found Moore then to Arrowsmith who slotted a perfectly weighted pass splitting the defence for the on running Lewis to take the ball into the six yard box and coolly slot the ball past the oncoming keeper, The strikers and midfielders got the glory today but the team acknowledged the unsung heroes of the team, the defence and keeper who kept a clean sheet.

This win takes Gornal to the top of the league and they will prove very hard to dislodge.
