LYE Town boss Martin Thomas is pleased with the way his players have reacted following last Saturday’s disappointing FA Vase exit.

Lye lost 4-2 at Stourbridge Road against local rivals Cradley Town, but quickly put that behind them to beat Alvechurch in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

That reaction pleased Thomas and joint-boss Darren Goodall. Despite conceding a late leveller to make it 2-2 against Alvechurch, Lye went on to win the tie 4-3 on penalties.

Thomas said: “It was a really good performance from the whole teams against a side that has not lost in eight games.

“It was very disappointing to go out of the FA Vase because I thought we still had the chances to win it, even though Cradley were the better side on the day.

“We spoke to the players after the game and told them we expected more. They reacted in the right manner on Tuesday night and that was exactly what we were looking for.

“We have a young side that has not been together long. We know there will be a lot of ups and downs this season because of that.

“We have one eye on the future and know this group will be better for the experience if we can keep them together. We want to make sure we stay in the top half of the league and continue to progress.”

Lye return to league action this weekend when they welcome Walsall Wood to Stourbridge Road this Saturday (3pm).
