YELTZ boss John Hill says he is working overtime to resolve the club’s goalkeeping crisis ahead of this Saturday’s game at Rushall Olympic.

Hill is on the lookout for a stopper after a serious eye injury to Dan Platt during last Saturday’s 2-1 home victory against Ramsbottom United.

Halesowen’s number one suffered a torn retina after being hit in the face by the ball in the first half.

He underwent an emergency operation to repair the damage but will be out for at least two months.

It could even take six months for his full sight to return to normal.

The injury to Platt follows the recent departure of Matt Sargeant to Midland Football League outfit Alvechurch.

It means the Yeltz are short of a first choice keeper.

Hill said: “We are working to get someone in ready for Saturday.

“We will look to get a loan signing on board very soon.

“We have goalkeeping coach Danny Watson or even a youth keeper that could fill in on the bench, the priority is for someone who can come straight into the starting line-up.

“Dan will be out for some time but that is secondary to his health. I don’t think it was as bad as first feared because it was torn rather than detached so hopefully he can make a full recovery.

“It is typical that it comes so close to when Matt Sargeant left us. We wanted him to stay and it just shows that with a little more patience he’d now be in the team and would be very hard to dislodge.”

Platt is no stranger to freak injuries after losing four teeth in pre-season in a home friendly against Tividale.

Hill praised his side after the success last weekend.

On-loan Kidderminster Harriers duo Reece Hales and Keyon Reffell both found the back of the net against rock-bottom Ramsbottom.

“It was a good result for us in a game that was always going to be tough,” added Hill.

“They have beaten some good sides this season and have a new manager. There are also no easy games in this league and it was pleasing to get the three points.”

Before the game, Hales confirmed the arrival of attacking full back Dan Summerfield. The right-sided defender has linked up with the Yeltz from Merthyr Tydfil.

His arrival has been followed by the exit from The Grove by Isaac Cooper, who has joined Sporting Khalsa.

He admits he was disappointed that the promising left-sided player chose to move on.

He added: “Isaac has a lot of potential but like a lot of young players is keen to play football.

“It is a shame he couldn’t wait a little longer and continue to develop with us.

“He will definitely be able to play at this level in the future but he’s not quite there at the moment.”

The Yeltz travel to Rushall Olympic this Saturday (3pm.) “They are a good side with a big squad and there is no doubt that we will have to be at our best to take something from the game,” warned the manager.
