ED Davies clinched the Stourbridge Snooker League’s Second Division Singles Championship with victory over Sam Porter.

The final was held at Stourbridge Institute, refereed by Roy Gannon, and saw Davies (Stourbridge Old Edwardians) prevail over Porter (Kingswinford Cons C) 3-2.

Davies began this final really well and took the first frame comfortably, but 21-year-old Porter countered impressively, potting really well to take a 2-1 lead.

Davies fought his way back into the match to level at 2-2 but the title seemed sure to go to Porter who took the brown but couldn’t quite get his desired position on the match-ball blue.

Davies took the blue, and eventually took a fine pink at the baulk end of the table, and achieved perfect position on the black to clinch the championship.

His victory saw him receive the Derek Flavell Memorial Shield, which was presented to the league by Flavell’s team-mates from the Wombourne Club and formerly of Morlock Social Club.
