BELBROUGHTON suffered their first defeat of the season after a disappointing display at home to Burghill, Tillington and Weobley in Division One of the Worcestershire Country League last Saturday.

After asking the visitors to bat, the Tons struggled early on to stem the flow of runs as Cameron McNaught (43) and Ben Owens (122 not out) feasted on some ordinary bowling.

Skipper Tom Oliver (1-60 from 17 overs) and James Wilson (4-63 from 13 overs) restricted the total to 254-9.

In reply, James Burston (4-31) was the chief destroyer as Belbroughton faltered to 135 all out from 37 overs.

They will look to hit back when Cookley visit Hackman’s Gate this Saturday (1pm start).

Meanwhile, Richard Wrigley turned in a star all-round performance for Belbroughton Seconds to claim victory at Netherton.

Batting first, Wrigley’s 99 built on the foundations set by prospect Pete Hawk (67) and Andrew Mackenzie (54) as the Tons finished on 260-5.

Replying, Netherton could only muster 196 all out as Wrigley capped a memorable day with figures of 5-71.

The Thirds continued their winning start to the season chasing 205 to beat Five Ways OEs by six wickets.

Back in Division One, Hagley bounced back from defeat to secure an 82-run success over Worcester.

Eral Anderson top-scored with 65 as the hosts made 194.

Amjad Ali bagged six wickets to help dismiss Worcester for just 112.

Hagley go to Pedmore this Saturday (1pm start).

Pedmore, meanwhile, will have to recover from a 134-run defeat at Cookley last weekend.

Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social are still searching for their first win for the season following defeat at home to Bewdley.

They lost by nine wickets after being bowled out for 164 as opener Thomas Blunt hit 66.

Simon Mauger smashed an unbeaten 86 as Bewdley reached their total in the 28th over for the loss of just one wicket.

In Division Two, Lye beat Alvechurch and Hopwood to bag their second win of the campaign.

Opener Muhammad Usman Jillani made a solid start but fell four runs short of a half-century.

Lye wickets did fall early before Kamran Mehram, batting at six, spanked 81 runs from 53 balls as the hosts were all out for 312.

In reply, Alvechurch folded for just 91 in the 29th over.

Lye now go to Wormelow this Saturday.

Enville secured their first success of the season with a 36-run success at Worcester Dominies and Guild.

They will look to back that up with a win at second-bottom Alvechurch and Hopwood this weekend.
