NETHERTON’S hopes of bouncing back to winning ways were dented by the weather last Saturday.

The visit of Ross-on-Wye in Division Three of the Worcestershire County League was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Highbridge Road.

They had previously suffered their first defeat of the season at Bartestree & Lugwardine.

They will now go to Cleobury Mortimer this Saturday (1pm start) hoping to push on from their current mid-table position.

Meanwhile, Netherton seconds did manage to get some play at Coombs Wood seconds before the rain arrived.

After being put into bat, the visitors smashed 245-8 from 45 overs at Stewarts Road.

Ahsan Zaman, batting at five, was unbeaten on 95 as he helped his side recover from 74-4 at one stage as wickets fell early.

Opener Mohammed Wasim Nawaz was the next highest scorer as he hit 36 before being removed by Martin Taylor, who took three wickets from his 12 over for the loss of 72 runs.

However, their game eventually fell victim to the wet conditions without the Coombs Wood getting a chance to reply.

Netherton’s seconds will now welcome Evesham this Saturday (1pm start) looking to lift themselves out of the bottom two places.
