COOMBS Wood's first eleven missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the league leaders Redditch on Saturday.
Their visitors were bowled out for a modest 229, but The Wood fluffed their lines by being bowled out for 222 with some indifferent performances with the bat.
Injuries and unavailabilities are hampering hopes of a promotion season, but this was a game that should have been won.
Meanwhile, Jason Clifford starred as Coombs Wood's seconds grabbed their first win of the season at Redditch.
Their hosts were restricted to 170, and Clifford saw The Wood home with a well constructed 76. The win takes The Wood out of the relegation zone.
The thirds were bowled out for a poor total of 138 when they hosted Five Ways OE with only Steve Hunt showing any resistance with a well constructed 62 not out.
In reply, Five Ways were cruising, but a late flurry of wickets saw The Wood pull off a great win by a 15 run margin. Steve Hunt returned figures of 3 for 8 in a man of the match display.
