OLDBURY'S Jodie Stimpson missed out on a podium place when the World Triathlon Series came to Britain.

Stimpson had to settle for fourth place in Leeds last Sunday in the event won by dominant American Gwen Jorgensen.

Stimpson was looking to bounce back from her disappointment at missing out on Great Britain's team for the Rio Olympics but couldn't hold off a final lap challenge from fellow Brit Vicky Holland.

The victory for Jorgensen was the second consecutive win for the American and her 17th WTS gold of her career.

After being down 1.40 at the second transition, Jorgensen was able to overcome from the largest deficit in the history of the WTS to capture her win.

Earning the silver medal was Bermuda’s Flora Duffy, who executed a massive attack early on the bike to gain a lead that was insurmountable to anyone but Jorgensen. She was followed over the finish line by Holland who kicked away from Stimpson in the closing stages to bag the final podium place.

The next WTS event will be in Stockholm, Sweden, on July 2-3.
