OLD Hill captain Danny Cox is targeting five more wins this season as the club looks to avoid the drop.

Victory at Bromsgrove last Saturday saw Old Hill bag their second success of the campaign to move away from the bottom of Division One of the Birmingham and District Premier League.

After restricting the hosts to 233-8 from their 55 overs, Old Hill chased down their target in fine fashion for an eight-wicket win.

They now welcome second-placed Smethwick at Haden Hill this Saturday (noon start) and Cox thinks five more wins will be enough for them to push away from danger.

“We are doing well at the moment and I think we could just do with winning another five. That is the target we have set ourselves,” he said.

“We now need to try and put a run of games together as well and see if we can get back-to-back wins and build some momentum.”

Old Hill handed Bromsgrove their third straight defeat last weekend.

They had looked to have posted a challenging target thanks to Alexei Kervezee’s tremendous 107 off 95 balls.

However, Cox (25) and fellow opener Jimmy Howell (93) set their side on the way with a commanding start. India overseas player Monil Patel then smashed an unbeaten 96 as Old Hill raced away.

Cox said: “We didn’t know if their total would be too much for us, but we started really positively and were soon on top.

“Monil then came in against their spinners and that’s all you need to know. He plays that so well.”
