BLACK Country Triathletes entered a number of teams in last weekend's Triathlon Relay Championships at the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham.

Clubs from across the country competed against each other in a relay race where each team member swam 500m, cycled 15k and then ran 5k.

Black Country Triathletes entered a number of teams in various age categories, but it was the boys junior team consisting of Reece Ashfield, Ed Povey, Jacob Anson and Oliver Evans that brought home the bronze medal.

Other athletes flying the BCT flag were Scott Palmer, Steve Blakemore, Lee Moreton, Alex Ashfield, Lorraine Gayton, Julie Black, Sarah Kennard, Meg Gregory, Paul Rogers, Rob Kennard, Keith Bate, Gary Bonner, Mark Evans, Louise Westbury and Karen Evans.

Meanwhile, out in France in considerably warmer conditions, several athletes took on the Vichy full and half Ironman races.

Cheryl Blewitt and Pat Hackett completed the full distance Ironman 140.6 race in 13.47.00 and 14.43.04 respectively.

Tim Blewitt completed the half distance 70.3 race in 6.02.53. They had to endure exceedingly hot weather making race conditions difficult and a non-wetsuit open water swim, something British athletes are not used to.

On August 21, Lee Moreton also competed in the Cotswolds Middle Distance Triathlon and finished in a time of 4.34.18. Also racing for Black Country were George Sherry who finished in 5.17.14 and Jan Brookes coming home in 8.45.25.

In what has been a bust period, the club also held a triathlon taster session on August 27 as part of the I Am Team GB initiative set up to encourage newcomers to the sport.
