MANAGER Gary Hackett wants Stourbridge to begin another chapter in the club’s FA Cup history book.

The Glassboys will travel to United Counties Premier Division side Peterborough Sports this Saturday in the first qualifying round of the famous competition.

Hackett is keen to start another cup run if they can overcome Sports, who play two levels below Stour.

He said: “The FA Cup has given us some wonderful occasions and we will aim to do that again.

“The competition has, in many ways, been the making of the club in recent years. We have been able to develop the ground, increase our profile and have an improved budget.”

However, Hackett says he won’t be taking the tie lightly despite playing lower league opposition.

He added: “It is a very tricky tie against a team that is playing very well in their league.

“They are on form and we will have to make sure we are at our best.

“We know as well as anyone what can happen in the FA Cup. You need to be well prepared otherwise you can be turned over, which we have done to other clubs in the past.”

The Glassboys will be looking to carry their improved league form into the cup contest.

A fruitful Bank Holiday weekend saw Stour bag back-to-back victories to take their winning run to three games.

They beat Nantwich 3-2 away last Saturday thanks to young Brandon Hague’s stoppage time winner. That was quickly followed by a 2-1 success when Barwell visited Amblecote on Monday.

Goals came from from Kayelden Brown and Luke Benbow, who now has four from the last four games.

The manager is pleased with the response from his side after losing their first two games this term.

“It has been a good response. It is okay telling people that we will improve but you have to go and make it happen,” added Hackett.

“There are still things we can work on but having a few players back from injury and extra fitness has really helped us.

"We are also taking our chances and that makes a massive difference as well.”
