DUDLEY Sports were left kicking their heels last Saturday after their proposed game with Hereford side Wellington was called off 15 minutes before kick-off owing to a waterlogged pitch.

Sports boss Tony Gore had no complaints and said: "It was the right decision. The pitch wasn't playable as there were puddles all over it.

"The referee told me he could start the game but claimed it wouldn't finish and I agreed with him."

Gore has been busy bolstering his squad with a couple of former players returning to the side.

Central defender Jason Walters has returned to Hillcrest Avenue following a spell at rivals Gornal Athletic after his father took over as caretaker manager at Garden Walk.

Versatile Aaron Weston, who can operate either left midfield or up front has also rejoined Sports Gore claimed: "Aaron went to Chasetown where it didn't work out for him and then joined Black Country Rangers. From there, he asked to come back to Dudley Sports.

"Both players will be big additions to the side, especially as we were down to the bare bones. But we should be in better shape for Saturday's trip to AFC Bridgnorth as Luke Williams, Curtis Cocking and Mark Gore are all back available."

Sports still managed to climb out of the bottom two despite not playing courtesy of Cradley Town's 3-1 defeat at home to Stone Old Alleynians - but Gore remains under no illusions and said: "We can't buy a win at the moment but we just have to keep scrapping away and things will pick up. There's not a massive gap between ourselves and the teams just above us, but we need to start picking up soon."
