ROWLEY Regis’ Tyler Denny will get an early examination of his title credentials against a former challenger for Midlands honours.

Denny is back in action this weekend for Les Allen’s Sunday afternoon show titled ‘Crunchtime at Lunchtime’ at The Venue Dudley, on High Street.

The 25-year-old will engage in a middleweight four-rounder with Telford’s Kieron Gray, who has competed for the Midlands crown at super welterweight.

Gray and Coseley’s Jamie Ball could not be parted when they battled for the belt in 2010, boxing to a 10-round draw.

Veteran Gray, 38, prepares to step through the ropes for a 65th time as a professional.

It’s a good learning fight for Denny, who laces on the gloves again exactly a month after he outpointed Robert Studzinski at the same place.

He said: “I thought I performed well there, I stuck to my boxing and didn’t do anything outrageous. I won comfortably in the end. He’s a tough guy and took some big shots.

“I haven’t really had that much time to reflect on it, with my next one coming up so soon, I’ve just been keeping my fitness up and weight down.

“I want to be in the ring as much as I can, so this is keeping me busy. I’m looking to impress on December 4, enjoy my Christmas and then it’s straight back to normal.

“I’m expecting a stubborn opponent, like I’ve had all through my pro career so far. It’s made for good entertainment. I’m determined to build on that win now and see where it takes me.”

Denny has set his sights on the vacant Midlands middleweight title, but would prefer a shot at an eight-round British Challenge belt as a warm up.

He said: “I’ll be going after some sort of title, probably a Challenge belt to start with. There are probably people ahead of me for the Midlands, at the minute, but I’d be willing to step in.

“I’m looking around summer time, really, but to go for a Challenge title would be great for my experience. I’m still learning, I’m a novice really in the pro ranks and I’m taking it step by step.

“I’m steadily getting to where I want to be, which is in the title mix, and you’ve got to earn the right to be there. That’s what I’m looking to do.

“The Midlands is not the highest I want to do, but that’s the first proper title along the way. There’s no point about thinking of anything else before that.

“The title is vacant, at the moment, and I want to step up my rounds up and start getting ready for that. I’d be about there after a Challenge fight.”

The top of the bill will see Tipton’s Ricky Summers take part in a six-rounder, with the unbeaten light heavyweight’s opponent to be confirmed soon.

Lichfield’s Brad Foster joins the line-up, looking to race to his sixth straight win without reply before joining the hunt for titles at super flyweight next year.

Tickets for the show, again priced at £35 and £50 ringside, are still available from Paul Pj Rowson on 07976 283 157.
