Stourbridge 2, Coalville Town 0

LUKE Benbow struck in each half to ensure the Glassboys got back to winning ways.

Stour had lost their first match in 13 games at Sutton Coldfield last weekend and quickly exited the league cup against Grantham Town two days later.

However, Gary Hackett's men made sure they didn't continue that trend with a workman-like victory over a determined Coalville side.

The game started in lively fashion with Stour skipper Tom Tonks trying an audacious lob from just inside his own half after just three minutes. Keeper Matt Coton backtracked well to collect without too much hassle.

The visiting stopper was called into action to gather a Benbow effort on five minutes after he'd linked up well with strike partner Jordan Archer.

Coalville, in turn, were also lively in the early stages without posing any danger to Matt Gould.

But the contest soon settled down and became a rather scrappy affair as Stour struggled to get their fast paced play into top gear.

Stour did finally work their way on top approaching the half hour mark as Coton was forced to tip over a drive from outside the box by debutant Josh Green.

The hosts didn't have to wait long for the opener though as Benbow found space from the resulting corner to head in at the near post.

Stour would have been happy to take a lead into the break but there was certainly room for improvement in the second period.

With that in mind it was the Glassboys that were straight on the attack and again it was the skipper setting tone.

Seconds of the restart he drove forward and unleashed a low drive that Coton had to tip away.

The home side continued to play on the front foot early on and could have doubled their lead on 54 minutes when Benbow crossed early for Kayelden Brown. But he hammered his header against the woodwork from close range.

Then, much like the first half, Stour failed to build on their early impetus.

It was Coalville who grew in confidence as the half wore on and worked two openings of their own. First sub Ryan Robbins flashed an effort wide of Gould's far post before Steve Towers drilled over the bar mid-way through the half.

The Glassboys finally wrapped up proceedings when Benbow netted in the third minute of injury time.

Coton saved twice from sub Ethan Jones before the ball bounced kindly for Benbow to slot into an unguarded net.

It is very much a case of job done for the hosts as they took the points from a clash that never really flowed, not helped in part due to Matt Dodd, Jack Duggan and Brown all leaving the field with injuries.

But again it was their class in the final third that was the difference, especially that of star man Benbow.
