OLD Halesonians have made it to the final of the North Mids Cup where they will face Bournville.

The Wassell Grove club's first team got an unexpected weekend off after being awarded a bye through to the finale of the competition.

The only senior action of the weekend for the club involved their second XV who were beaten 33-26 away at Kidderminster.

The Old Halesonians U16’s squad travelled down the M5 to play Worcester RFC and the boys from the Black Country delivered one of their best-ever performances.

Old Hales kicked off into a very strong wind, Worcester received the ball and ran into a solid defensive line.

Old Hales quickly turned over the ball and less than one minute from the start of the match Jacob Bannister ran in a try which Tom King converted.

The visitors quickly dominated the play and ran in three more tries with Jacob Saul, Henry Thomas and Jacob Bannister taking the honours and King putting every kick between the posts.

Worcester registered a single try but a half time score of 5-28 reflected a superb performance from the Old Hales squad.

The second half saw Old Hales start as they had finished the first. They worked together well and minutes from the off Saul ran in his second try of the match, once again converted by King.

Undeterred Worcester fought back and were rewarded with two tries of their own. Full back Louie Prosser, who had a fantastic match putting in some immense tackles when needed, ran the ball forward at considerable pace before offloading the ball leading to another try for Old Hales just before the end of play to make the final score Worcester 17, Old Halesonians 40.
