Coundon Court 3, Lye Town 1
LYE ladies’ four game unbeaten run came to an end against mid-table Coundon this weekend, ensuring the race for league runners-up goes to the wire.
Injuries and illness to key players meant the Lyeonesses fielded a patched up team, and ultimately proved the difference between the two sides as Coundon capitalised.
Adele Hickman scored Lye’s goal to reduce arrears to 2-1, but were however undone on the break pushing for an equaliser.
Lye still sit in third place a point behind Crusaders and level on points with Kingshurst, but still have a game in hand on both teams.
With all three teams still to play champions-elect Burton Albion, the management team of Clive Rogers, Mark Ridge and Kevin Arnold know that anything less than three points at home Leamington this Sunday will hand the initiative to their rivals.
Lye however hope to welcome back Robyn Hingley back from injury and Hollie Ridge returning from university, and wait for news on captain Katie Priest’s hamstring pull.
