LYE Town’s chances of finishing in their highest ever Midland League position has taken a hit after the side suffered their seventh loss in nine games.

The Stourbridge Road outfit were on the wrong side of a 3-1 score line on Saturday as they travelled to Stourport to take on a Swifts team who bounced back from two defeats in a week to take the victory.

After a goalless first half, Swifts went ahead in the 54th minute through Matt Fulloway, before Dan Sweeney added a second.

Lye set up a nervy finish when captain Ben Jeavon headed in, but just minutes later Sam Beasley made the points safe for the home side.

The defeat moves Lye down into fourth place in the table below Sporting Khalsa, who also have a game in hand.

Town are due to travel to Coventry Sphinx tonight (Wednesday, March 29), before another away trip to Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday.
