Lichfield 53, Old Halesonians 33

Old Hales started confidently but after nine minutes Lichfield's backs broke the line early for a converted try.

Hales came back with some dominant scrummaging providing ball through Jamie Keen and Ian Briggs. Luke Smith got on the end of a Chris Hooper pass to sprint for the line for try, converted by Briggs.

Lichfield came back immediately with two quick tries in succession from well worked lineout play to lead.

Hales fought hard with Neil Mason, Rich Taylor and Jay Martin making ground with centres Ben Barkley and Carl Robinson always looking dangerous.

Robinson split the defence after a Hales scrum to feed wing Jay Reid for a well worked try in the corner, converted by Briggs.

Lichfield were dangerous from the restart, the backs again breeched the Hales defence to extend their lead to 26 - 14.

Hales kicked for territory from the restart, a lineout by Callum Young, over the back of the line for Briggs to collect and sprint for an individual try and conversion to pull back to 26 - 21.

Hales made changes but could not gain any momentum, Litchfield capitalised with two quick tries to go ahead 38 - 21.

Further Hales changes followed and were more positive but without reward and Lichfield scored again.

Hooper returned after treatment to score an individual try converted by Briggs to make the score 48 - 33.

The final score came from a mishandle and the Lichfield full back was too fast for the covering defence and scored to confirm his team's victory.

Hales finished in eighth position in the league and meet Bournville in the final of the North Midlands Cup on Sunday May 7.

Old Hales started positively but couldn’t break through the DK defence. Hales then suffered some defensive frailties and DK broke through to score an unconverted try.

From an attacking scrum 20 metres out Old Hales took clean ball that gave Tom Harris time to make the perfect pass to fullback Andy Tromans running a good line. Tromans scythed through the DK defence to score close to the posts; Luke Fenton landed the conversion for a 7-5 lead.

Old Hales then disrupted a DK lineout five metres from the DK try line; Jack Manison collected and slipped the ball to Josh Woodward who scored from close range. Luke Fenton added the conversion for a 14-5 lead at half time.

After a period of even play, Hales centre Alex Church was tackled just short of the DK line; Luke Fenton was on hand to collect the ball and force his way over the try line to score. Fenton also converted to make the score 21-5.

The home side’s play then became disjointed and DK gained confidence in attack. DK piled on the pressure and quickly ran in two tries to reduce the lead to 21-15. A tense period followed for Old Hales until Luke Fenton intercepted a DK pass and raced 40 metres to score under the posts. Fenton made it four conversions out of four to seal a 28-15 victory.
