OLD Hill suffered a disappointing weekend with defeat against local rivals Halesowen before exiting the National Knock-out Cup at the hands of Wolverhampton.

Again captain Jonathon Wright felt it was his side's inconsistency with the bat that let them down on derby day.

Halesowen, batting first, proved a strong unit as Ed Kilbee (71) and Mohammed Shauib (34) held the innings together whilst the emerging all-rounders Dylan Ross-Watt (38) and Eddie Rhodes (28 not out) boosted the total to 204.

In reply, Old Hill were quickly struggling at 45-5 as Ross-Watt and Rhodes set about the top order. Only a quickfire 70 from Zahid Kafiat kept Old Hill in it until they were eventually out for just 173.

Wright said: "Saturday was disappointing because the same failings have come back to haunt us again.

"We struggled to form partnerships with the bat and we are repeating the same mistakes.

"I thought it was a decent bowling performance to limit them to an achievable target but we just couldn't back that up.

"Again the top order didn't fire and it was left to those at six and below to try and salvage something."

Wright is hoping his side can put it right when they host Harborne this Saturday (noon start).

"It is clear that we are confidence side," he said. "We could just do with another win to lift us again. I'm looking forward to the game on Saturday and hopefully we can bounce back.

"We have a lot of firepower in the lower order. The plan now is for those at the top to lay the foundations for those below to really do some damage."

Old Hill's frontline batting line-up suffered more disruption as Nav Poonia limped out of the warm-up on Saturday with a hamstring problem. He could be out for up to two weeks and adds to the loss of Tom Elwell (knee) and Hamza Ahmed (thumb).

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Old Hill's progress in the National Knock-out Cup was halted by Wolverhampton. Wright bagged a ton as his side made 215 but their Premier League opponents eventually proved too strong.
