HIMLEY star Chris Boroughs went from villain to hero after his golden duck was followed by a four wicket haul against Wellington.

The Stourbridge Road outfit got off to a positive start in Shropshire on Saturday, but despite a good performance had to settle for a winning draw.

After winning the toss and choosing to go into bat, Bilaal Hussain was the star man for Himley posting a score of 81 off 102 balls in an innings that included 11 fours.

His partnership with fellow opener Chad Brandrick (43) was finally stopped by the home team on 123.

Boroughs quickly followed Brandrick to the pavilion after being caught out on his first ball, but Callum Lea (54 not out) hit an impressive half century to leave Wellington having to chase Himley’s total of 233 for 6.

After his short batting stint, Boroughs certainly made up for it with the ball in his hand as he took 4-47, including the wicket of the host’s Samit Gohil (97) who just fell short of recording his century.

The result leaves Himley languishing in mid-table of the Birmingham and District Division One after a topsy-turvy season so far.

Captain Greg Wright, who was unable to attend the match, praised his players despite the "disappointing" result.

Wright said: “I was following the game and have spoken to a few of the lads since, but it was an encouraging performance as Wellington is a tough place to go.

“We came out and batted well and our openers got us off to a positive start. We were unlucky not to have come away with the whole points, but I am still pleased with the performance.

“Obviously it’s disappointing to come so close to taking the win, but I can’t be disappointed with the players who I know would have given their all.

“We’ve had a rollercoaster season, but we need to start putting together a string of performances to get the results our play deserves.”

Wright will be back among his teammates this weekend but will need his players to step up if they are to pick up a result on their travels to Moseley (noon start) who themselves are just one point behind league leaders Bridgnorth.

“We’ve got a really tough game on Saturday,” Wright added. “It’s always tough against Moseley.

“Last time we played them we were leading and should have beaten them, but if the breaks go for us and we perform as well as we can do, then we are hopeful of getting a good result.

“But we know it’s going to be a very tough one.”
