CAPTAIN Greg Wright says Himley are capable of producing the strong finish they need to crash this season's promotion party.

Himley slipped to fourth place in Division One of the Birmingham and District Premier League following a losing draw at rivals Bromsgrove last Saturday.

Jayden Levitt struck a superb run-a-ball 132 as Bromsgrove breezed to a huge total of 274 for five and then had Himley on the ropes in reply at 176-8 by close.

Levitt shared an opening partnership of 143 with partner Ashley Newfield who netted a further 58 runs before Ryan Pedley plundered a belated 39 to bat Bromsgrove beyond reach.

Himley's Sri Lankan star Nipun Karunanayake put on another impressive display to lead his side's reply and was eventually dismissed with the last ball of the game.

He came to the crease following early dismissals for openers Chad Brandrick (15) and Bilaal Hussain (2). Number three Callum Lea also fell for single figures.

Stuart Wedge, batting at seven, made a vital contribution of 36 runs from 91 balls to help his side take something from the clash.

The draw keeps Wright's men well within touching distance of the three sides above them heading into the final six games of the campaign.

The skipper at Stourbridge Road is pleased to be challenging and thinks his young side have what it takes to chase down the pack.

He said: "I was pleased with the battling draw on Saturday against an in-form team.

"We also had some key players out and they were replaced by some talented but really young and inexperienced lads.

"We now have six cup finals to come. If we all stay fit and win five or six, which we're more than capable of, we'll be in with a shout.

"It's just pleasing, particularly with so many young lads in the side, to be in this position after quite a few years without realistically competing for league success at this point of the season."

Himley will look to cut the gap to the top two when they welcome mid-table outfit Barnards Green this Saturday (noon start).
