CAPTAIN Greg Wright is determined for Himley to push on after a positive season ended with silverware.

Himley narrowly missed out on promotion from Division One of the Birmingham and District Premier League on Saturday but made sure they ended on a high by winning the Canterbury Cup just a day later.

They couldn't find enough to beat Wellington at home last Saturday even though second-placed Moseley's win at Walmley took promotion out of their hands regardless.

Though Himley failed with their late push for a top-two finish, they made sure they ended the campaign with silverware.

They beat Old Elizabethans by 34 runs in the final of the T20 competition at New Road on Sunday.

Wright top scored with 38 as his side made 144 after winning the toss and batting first.

Three wickets each for Jamie Turner and Stuart Wedge helped them secure a memorable victory and banish their defeat in the final of the same contest two years ago.

On Sunday's cup success, Wright said: "It was really nice to end on a high note. It was a great day out for the lads and it's a beautiful ground to play on. It's also nice to get over the line this time around after we failed in the final last time."

The captain now wants Himley to build on this season and become a force next summer.

He said: "We never had our hearts set on promotion at any point. It would always have been a massive bonus for us.

"It's a credit to the lads to get us into that position in the first place. After losing Ben Smith and Will Fraine and then Tom Kohler-Cadmore I don't think anyone would have thought we could finish in third.

"In the end the best two teams have gone up but we have managed to come a very long way as a team this year.

"There is a lot for us to build on and we need to make sure we develop over the winter.

"It's been a while but it really does feel like the club is back on an upward curve."
