DUDLEY Kingswinford stormed to the top of the table after the devastating defeat of rivals Wolverhampton at Heathbrook.

DK powered to a convincing 49-7 success last Saturday to continue their perfect start to the new Midlands One West season.

Director of rugby Neil Shillingford was delighted with the way his side put the league's bottom side to the sword but admits that tougher test are now on the horizon.

He said: "It was a great result for us and I think we even left a lot of points out there. We landed one conversion from seven or eight and a number of other tries went down when we couldn't quite find that final pass.

"It bodes well though and we played some really entertaining rugby and made sure we always kept the pressure on.

"We identified it as a bonus point game again because of the slow start they have had. But they are a big side and have some pace in the backs and I think they'll take points off a few teams this season.

Shillingford also praised the impact of Luke Trevis and Callum Nichols after they were handed first team chances after impressing with the Colts.

"They did really well and it was the ideal game to blood them," he said. "We had a late injury to Dan Marsh so put in Callum Nichols and I thought he was outstanding.

"Luke Trevis also did really well and they have both taken their chance and put themselves firmly in contention for selection."

DK will now go to fellow unbeaten side Bromsgrove this Saturday before fourth-placed Burton arrive at Heathbrook the following weekend.

"Confidence is high at the moment but we now have two massive games coming up that could be important as far as the bigger picture for the rest of the season goes," added the coach.

"We will need to be at our best and the mindset may have to change a little so that the main thing is that we get the win rather than worrying about the bonus point.

"Bromsgrove have been picking up the wins but have had points scored against them. They have a big pack which is something we have struggled against in the past but I think we are a little wiser now.

"We have the best defence in the league at the moment and that can give us the base we need.

"It's a big two weeks but hopefully we can put down a marker for the rest of the season."

Dan Marsh will have his shoulder injury assessed ahead of the weekend.
