Stockingford AA Pavilions 0-2 Lye Town Ladies

LYE put their FA Cup disappointment behind them with a dominant performance against table-toppers Stockingford.

Lye started to get on top midway through the first half and were fortunate when a coming together between the Stockingford striker and Lye keeper saw the referee wave play on when a decision in favour of the striker looked most likely.

Lye began to create chances with Clare Williamson going close, and causing problems with set pieces.

Shortly before half time, the Lyeonesses went ahead. Chloe Handy whipped in a dangerous corner, Adele Hickman headed towards goal and Erin Hicken converted from close range.

Lye's defence came under some early pressure in the second half, but the back four marshalled superbly by Hicken and Anna Dabek, and full backs Handy and Sophie Jones dealt with everything.

Lye put clear water between the two teams when Williamson ran on to a superb through ball from Handy, rounded the keeper and found the back of the net.

The goal sparked Stockingford into action, but Lye almost scored a third when Williamson broke free again, squared to Emily Drewitt whose shot came back off the post.

Lye's defence saw out the remainder of the game to secure two successive away wins.

Lye currently sit mid-table however they have three games in hand on the teams above them in the table thanks to an extended run in the FA Cup.

Lye are at home to Coundon Court on Sunday October 22.
