DUDLEY Town and Dudley Sports will battle for a derby day victory that could secure their West Midlands Premier League survival.

The rivals will meet at the Dell Stadium this Saturday (3pm kick-off) targeting a big three points from their final game of the season.

Fifth-from-bottom Sports are nearly safe following last Saturday's 6-1 success over Shifnal but Town still remain within reach of second-from-bottom Pegasus Juniors.

It means a big derby win could yet have a huge say in this season's battle to beat the drop, especially if the league were to unexpectedly rule that three are to go down this season.

Sports boss Tony Gore is looking forward to the contest.

He said: "I'm sure both clubs would have preferred for there to be nothing on the game but we are very aware that the wrong type of result could have a big impact.

"We are looking to finish the season on a high and hopefully it'll be a really good game.

"It's a big game for both clubs."

Sports go into the clash on the back of the emphatic Shifnal success.

A hat-trick from Ronnee Hendricks and goals from Jack Baily, Jordan McGovern and sub Kaynell Smith handed them a vital victory.

Gore added: "We had two tough games in the week when we lost against Wolves Casuals and Cradley Town but then hit back brilliantly.

"We had a go at the lads on Thursday but they responded fantastically well.

"We were almost unplayable and must have created 20 chances and were a little disappointed that we didn't score a few more."

Only Kieron Price will miss Saturday's derby clash.

Meanwhile, Robins boss Dean Whitehouse just wants his young players to enjoy the occasion.

He said: "Three months ago this would have been a token game with nothing but bragging rights to play for because we'd have been down.

"The lads have done fantastically well to get us to the position we're in.

"There is no pressure on us and I just want the lads to stay relaxed and treat it like any other game.

"Hopefully both teams have already done enough to stay up. I think both Dudley sides deserve it."

Town go into the game on the back of a disappointing 4-0 home defeat against Malvern last Saturday.

The Robins have no new injury concerns heading into the derby day.
