TIME is ticking away to cast your online vote to crown the Dudley News Sports Personality of the Year 2008.
Voting opened two weeks ago and we have recieved hundreds of votes for this year’s fab four.
With the race entering the final straight your sports star needs your support more than ever with the poll closing at midday on Monday January 12.
Throughout December, we invited your nominations to help us select our final shortlist of four local sports personalities.
The deadline for nominations has now closed and after much deliberation, our four candidates have been chosen.
In the running is sprinting starlet Ann Ika Oqua who continues to develop at a fast pace and has been dubbed a”realistic prospect” for a podium finish at the 2012 London Olympics.
The 15-year-old showed her immense talent to claim a gold and silver medal at the English Schools Championships.
The youngster is set to turn her attentions to the 400m next year under the guidance of Kates Hill based former Olympic heptathlete Clover Court and her husband Howard.
Brierley Hill bus driver Sam Horton has continued to make massive strides in his bid to be boxing star.
The 23-year-old middleweight has won five bouts this year to take his impressive record to 11 victories from 11 fights. He is truly devoted to the sport and he really does box from the heart. He does this as he loves boxing and his life would be lost without it.
Veteran opening bowler Tim Heap has bowled himself into contention with another impressive season for Himley CC in the Birmingham League Premier Division.
Heap helped his side secure second place in the top flight with some fine spells of opening bowling.
During the last campaign he claimed 45 wickets at an average of 16.27 with best figures of 6-23.
The tail-ender also proved his worth with some fine batting guiding his side home in some tight run chases including a match winning six away at Barnt Green.
Dudley karate ace Michael Campbell makes up the quartet after enjoying an incredible 12 months.
The 19-year-old has been selected by the English Karate Federation to represent England in the forthcoming Junior/Cadet European Championships .
The youngster has been competing since he was 10, winning many national championships throughout the UK including becoming both the UK Open and the English Regional champion as well as coming second in the British Karate championships.
