STOURBRIDGE FC are within touching distance of BGB Premier Division survival after two truly brilliant home wins at the War Memorial.

The Glassboys picked up an easy 3-0 win over Tiverton Town on Saturday before beating Swindon Supermarine at Amblecote on Monday evening thanks to a last minute winner from Ashley Langford to leave the fans dancing on the terraces.

Manager Gary Hackett (pictured) has been delighted with his side’s run of form that has seen them pick up 10 points from 12 and move 13 points clear of the relegation zone, but he’s insisting they can’t slow down between now and the end of the season.

He said: “It’s been a very good week for us.

“We have now put ourselves in a brilliant position especially when you consider where we were in the table after the first 10 games of the season.

“In football everything can change very quickly when you consider how poor we were two weeks ago at Banbury.

“But as I said at the time as a team we seem to respond better under pressure and so it has proved in the last two weeks.

“We will certainly not be getting carried away however, and until we are mathematically safe I will be reminding the players that we are still in a fight against relegation.

“We have four weeks left of the season and there will be no let up.”

The recent good run of form has also seen Hackett use his squad to its full with a host of players coming into the team and producing the goods when it matters.

Hackett added: “The players who have come in for one reason or another have shown they are determined to keep their position.

“For instance, James Dyson was outstanding on Saturday but two games in three days was going to be too much for him and Dave Bridgwater stepped in on Monday and played very well.

“Linden Dovey scored his first league goal on Saturday and that has lifted a lot of pressure of his shoulders and you can already see his confidence has come back.

“Sam Smith has also come in to cover for Nathan Bennett and Craig Slater at the heart of defence and done well.

“We have a lot of big games still to play this season including a cup final and I think all the players want to be involved.”

This Saturday, the Glassboys travel to Oxford City before welcoming Gloucester City to the War Memorial on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kick-off).

James Dyson and Calum Martin will come back into contention while captain Craig Slater is rated 50/50 as he continues to recover from a lower back problem.

Centre-half Nathan Bennett is not expected to return before the Bank Holiday weekend at the earliest.
