Garratt wins Wombourne

STOURBRIDGE Running Club’s Mark Garratt had a fantastic run last Sunday to win the Wombourne Spring Classic 10km.

Garratt defied the hot conditions to complete the course in a time of 35 minutes 19 seconds, while his Stour teammate Simon Link came sixth overall, and second male veteran 40, in a time of 36m 59s.

Anna Garratt, fresh from recent success in the Wolverhampton Race for Life, was the first female veteran 40 in the Wombourne Wiggle 5km in a time of 33m 6s.

Dave Haden and Pete Walters took part in the Pontesbury Fell Race, the fourth race in the Shropshire Hills Summer Series last Wednesday June 24.

The three mile fell race incorporates 1,160 feet of climbing with steep inclines and declines. Despite a tough race in hot temperatures, Pete finished 32nd in a time of 25m 07s with Dave hot on his heels only four seconds behind him in 33rd place.

Laurence Leeming-Latham led the Stourbridge team home at the Timberhonger 10km on Monday in a time of 48m 44s, good enough for 117th place in the picturesque but challenging route.

Chris Barnett was only 22 seconds behind Laurence in 122nd place, while other good Stour performances came from Sharron Kibble in 49m 53s, Douglas Hamilton in 55m 55s and Nicholas Edwards in 62m 02s.
